The winter sprinkles and rain that have blanketed the island could not deter the players as the league’s four teams finished in stalemates last Sunday in Hanalei.
In the opening contest, Cane Fire and Afterburner struggled to a 3-3 tie followed by Hanalei battling Kryptonite to a 2-2 deadlock in the Hanalei mist.
Jamieson Cosier of Afterburners was remembered in a prayer prior to the opening kick. Cosier’s family was visiting the victim of a hit-and-run accident the day after Thanksgiving, said Sue Strickland, one of the officers for the KMSL.
Cane Fire was victimized with an “own goal” to open the scorebooks but Afterburners’ Cody Kimura came back with a goal to tie, 1-1.
Leroy Emery, netting two goals of the day, opened with his first score inside the 18-yard line to pull the Afterburners in front only to have Cane Fire’s Sean Kosen answer on a header off a corner kick to knot the contest 2-2 at the half.
Emery struck first in the second half, but Andy Solomon answered for Cane Fire from 30 yards out to force the 3-3 tie.
Eric Desenberg opened the Hanalei scorebooks in the drizzle only to have Duncan MacDonald tying the contest 1-1 on a cross from Zac Davis about five minutes following the opening goal.
Edward Araujo put Hanalei up on a penalty kick to open the second half.
Eddie Adams won the one-on-one battle with the Hanalei goalkeeper for the 2-2 final after shots from Kryptonite’s Tui Alapa and Hanalei’s Desenberg both came up empty.
