HONOLULU — The University of Hawai‘i Warrior volleyball team was picked eighth in the 2008 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Preseason Coaches’ Poll released yesterday.
The Warriors accumulated 51 points with Pepperdine selected No. 1 with 108 points and five first-place votes.
Brigham Young was a close second-receiving 105 points and five first place votes. UCLA (104), UC Irvine (88) and Cal State Northridge (85) round out the top five with UCLA and CSN receiving one first-place vote apiece.
USC was sixth with 68 points, while Long Beach State (57) was seventh followed by Hawai‘i.
UC Santa Barbara (40), Pacific (23) and UC San Diego (13) were numbers nine through 12, respectively.
Hawai‘i is coming off a 13-14 mark this year while finishing the MPSF at 11-11 and tied for sixth place in the final standings.
The Warriors return hitters Matthew Vanzant (3.03 kpg), James Clar (3.70 kpg) and Jacob Schkud (1.92 kpg).
