The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative board of directors named the four community members who will serve on the Nominating Committee, which will be chaired by KIUC board member Alfred Laureta.
The committee includes: Michael Murakoshi, senior vice president and Kaua‘i regional manager of First Hawaiian Bank; Mike Tresler, vice president of Grove Farm; Linda Salvador, former Kaua‘i Manager of American Savings Bank; and Mark Ozaki, officer with Kaua‘i Police Department.
The committee will nominate three candidates to run in the March board elections. The purpose of the group is to ensure that there are as many candidates as there are open seats.
Incumbent board members are eligible for re-election, as there are no term limits. The committee may nominate board members whose terms are expiring — current Chair Dennis Esaki, Treasurer Peter Yukimura and Vice Chair Phil Tacbian — to run for their same positions. Candidates can also get on the ballot via member petition.
KIUC Members who wish to be considered by the Nominating Committee should submit a one-page resume and letter of interest by Jan. 2, 2008, to KIUC Nominating Committee, 4463 Pahe‘e St., Lihu‘e, HI 96766-2000. The Committee will announce their selection of nominees no later than Jan. 22, 2008.
The Committee is looking for members of KIUC who have past experience serving on the boards of community or nonprofit organizations or government organizations and those willing to accept the responsibilities and obligations of a board member.
Qualified KIUC members may also be nominated by collecting 35 signatures of other members in good standing and submitting a completed petition no later than Feb. 11, 2008. Candidates with valid petitions and those selected by the committee will be placed on the ballot for the March 22, 2008, election.
