Cathy Shanks started helping out at the Youth Fun Run while she was at the American Heart Association, and is still doing it. Hats off to all the YMCA East Kaua‘i Y’s Men’s Club on another great event. Tom Tannery got to run with the kids along with Kathy Mata and Wendy Tannery (she said keiki and high school rodeo was last week) was her usual cheerleading self at the finish line.
Evelyn Laureta was helping at the finish line, but Judge Alfred Laureta had marshal duty at the Railroad Crossing sign.
Donna Schulze was too busy with her duties as race starter, and once the run was started, went to help Wendy cheer on the finishers … was nice to see Alex LaMadrid as one of the two-milers. He and Stephanie Rogers made it all the way to Kapa‘a for the KIF swim meet there, too.
Greg Gonsalves was doing double duty (basketball in Kilauea?) starting with the swim meet and finishing with KIF soccer … Nicole Farr and Sam Henriques can breathe sighs of relief now.
Out in Waimea, Cheyenne Duarte and Rea Plotado (they didn’t have games Saturday) were getting the attention of Gary Maguire who smiled as the two players (someone went to a party and Krista Kali didn’t answer her phone) reacted like the tide as Kapa‘a and Waimea waged their overtime battle.
Hats off to Alika Smith and his staff on the Waimea JV’s first win of the season … Chase Parongao said Pizetta’s mo’ bettahs.
OK, time to go check out the Martin Luther King Day thingies at Kukui Grove.
