Kahili Adventist School presents this 2007 feature that showcases global destinations from Sweden to Canada for skiers.
“There’s even a feature on Dubai’s indoor ski resort,” said event organizer Aletha Thomas.
Warren Miller movies are known for their door prizes. “I grew up going to them on the Mainland and they always give away ski packages,” said Thomas. “So I’ve gotten gift cards and T-shirts from around the island to give away.”
“This is a film that’s great for the entire family to see,” she said.
“Playground” shows electrifying winter sports footage. This is Warren Miller Entertainment’s 58th film, adding it to the legacy of Miller’s pioneering action sports cinematography.
Miller is known for his wry wit and clever narration. When he first began making films it was purely to entertain his ski buddies. All in all, Miller has over 750 sports films to his credit, although he no longer makes the Warren Miller Entertainment films.
This year’s adventure film includes X-games gold medalists and brothers, Zach and Reggie Crist, plus a segment on snowboarders from Burton Smalls Team.
Fun and challenge were the filmmaker’s only goal said Max Bervy, the film’s director and producer.
Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults.
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, jazz sax player Denny Morouse at Shaka Taco
Morouse is a seasoned Jazz musician, but comfortable in all genres of music, Jazz, R & B, Latin Jazz, Brazilian, African, West Indian, Hawaiian and loves all Indigenous, Eastern, and Asian music.
Karl Greenfeld at Time magazine said, “What Denny Morouse does when he plays is pour his heart and humanity out there into the room with you. His virtuosity is self-evident — he is a master of his instrument — but what is more important is you actually feel the soul and warmth of the man playing the music. Denny has worked with and inspired artists ranging from Stevie Wonder and John Lennon to Art Blakey, Ray Baretto, and Larry Young.”
