Mid-Pac 2, Kaua‘i 1 – HANAPEPE — Matt McDaniel pitched six scoreless innings and struck out nine in Mid-Pacific Institute’s 2-1 win over Kaua‘i High School yesterday at the Hanapepe Stadium. McDaniel finished the seventh inning and the game, allowing only five hits and a run.
With the win, the Owls won the Waimea Invitational Baseball tournament, which included host school Waimea High School, Kaua‘i, Kapa‘a High School, St. Louis School, Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i, Mid-Pac and Campbell High School.
Mid-Pac, who played a double header yesterday, went undefeated in the tournament, winning four straight games.
Easton Torigoe went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Russell Doi went 2-for-2 with a walk.
For Kaua‘i, Rysan Sakamoto and Aaron Soong went 1-for-3 and Jonathan Gebauer was 2-for-3 with a double. Gebauer’s final hit in the game came in the seventh inning when he popped one deep into the out field and cleared the back fence.
The hit was ruled a double.
The Red Raiders started with Skylar Arakaki and was relieved by Trent Allianic.
Mid-Pac 11, Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i 2
Mid-Pac faced Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i in the first game of the double-yesterday at Hanapepe Stadium.
Torigoe went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double, Lyle Shimata was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a double and Nick Tasaka went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
St. Louis 4, Kapa‘a 1
St. Louis School’s baseball team finished with 11 hits to Kapa‘a High School’s seven to win 4-1 in Waimea.
N. Siegfried pitched four innings for the Crusaders. D. Higa hit a single and a double and M. Samia was 3-for-4.
Kapa‘a’s Travis Shigeta hit a single and a double, Wes Abalos hit a single and a double, Kysen Lopez hit two singles and Aaron Nagao hit one single.
Kapa‘a’s Braden Kamibayashi pitched six innings and gave up three runs and nine hits.
