In celebration of National Red Cross Month, the Hawai‘i State Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding its annual Hats Off event Saturday.
Off duty firefighters, police officers, civil defense, military and other volunteers will take their hats off as a salute to the American Red Cross and ask the public to fill their hats with donations. Donations may also be made online at www.hawaiiredcross.org, just click on the hat to donate. All proceeds will go to the Hawai‘i Red Cross and stay in the islands to help those in need.
Volunteers will collect donations at various locations throughout the state from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Locations include: Kukui Grove Shopping Center, Wal-Mart, and Big Save Koloa.
“On Kaua‘i, the Red Cross is ready to respond to disasters that occur and provide emergency assistance and emotional support to victims, help prepare families and businesses for disasters, teach lifesaving skills to the community, and provide emergency communications for military service members and their families,” said Alfred Darling, Kaua‘i County Director of the Red Cross. “We are not a government agency and rely on the aloha spirit and generous donations from the people of Kaua‘i to provide these critical services to the community. All of the funds collected will stay on island to support local services for Kaua‘i County.”
The Red Cross is a nonprofit humanitarian organization which provides assistance for immediate emergency needs. All Red Cross assistance to disaster victims is free. The Red Cross is not a government agency but depends on public contributions to help others.
