The Kaua‘i Police Department has yet to release the identities of two people who have died in separate incidents.
On Saturday afternoon, a 30-year-old United Airlines flight attendant drowned at Kalapaki Beach. According to a press release from the county, the male visitor from Santa Ana, Calif., had been swimming with co-workers when they lost sight of him.
After reporting the situation to hotel security, they discovered someone had already brought him ashore and was administering CPR.
Medics continued CPR en route to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead.
Officials have not released the identity of the man yet.
On Wednesday, authorities discovered a body in a charred van after responding to a brushfire at the Russian Fort in Waimea. Officials later determined the remains were those of a man.
An autopsy report did not make a final determination as to the cause of death, which may not be known until the results from a toxicology report are complete in a few weeks.
County spokesperson Mary Daubert could supply no new information yesterday. “There is only a tentative identification,” Daubert said.
The police department asks that anyone who was in the area when the incident occurred to call Detective Patrick Balbarino at 241-1684, Police Dispatch at 241-1711, or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
