Hats off to Tom Cooper and his General Dynamics family, Rhonda Liu and Dr. Francis Takahashi of Kaua‘i Community College and Jerry Hill for doing such a bang-up job with the Engineering Week program Friday.
Adam Kerlin and Joey Banasihan were two of the students who spent the day getting familiar with the many opportunities available in the high-tech field and still made it to the KIF qualifying track meet at Vidinha Stadium.
The local boys, Neil Young, Ryan Dela Pena, John Inouye, Mark Kunimoto, Sean Head, Gilbert Maerina, Darin Millard (he’s from Maui, but his wife Erin is a math teacher at Kapa‘a so he counts, too) were busy working with the 31 students from the three public high schools in a project centering around the development of cellular phones and signal transmission … Neil even had time to talk about the new Casio high speed camera that shoots more than a thousand frames a second (now that’s what Sheadon Ringor needs for his compressed images). Each school and KCC got one from General Dynamics so next year’s event should be interesting.
Mahalo to Janice Chun (this was not Girl Scouts) for the unique conversation piece.
Congratulations to Melissa McFerrin of the Kaua‘i Farm Bureau for doing such a great job coordinating the 13th annual Garden Fair at KCC … Tony Kilbert of the KCC Performing Arts Center (he had a dress rehearsal going on) said he likes to see the place hopping.
