Congratulations to Ross Shimabukuro and all of his helpers for a great Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state girls golf championship.
Winston Ogata was out helping as was Royce Ebesu, who has the Korean Veterans’ golf tournament coming up May 24.
Coach Ipo Yoshioka was able to do the tournament and still make it to the volleyball playoffs in Waimea. Waimea golfer Melissa Kagawa didn’t let the tournament stop her from enjoying the volleyball action, either.
Alex Dorn is serious about the sport since she was getting tips from Kapa‘a coach Gary Saiki while taking in the action on both days, and mahalo to Kapa‘a coach Fred Levinthol for doing the transportation.
Fred knew exactly where the right spot was since Lorraine Ishii was also checking out the action near No. 15 where you can see the tee shots for No. 16 as well.
Mary Bea Porter was doing the Rules thing and was especially proud of Mariel Galdiano who marked her first hole-in-one during the Hawai‘i Junior Golf tournament at Wailua over the weekend.
Hats off to Ed Okamoto (he was picking up rubbish some golfers left by the scoreboard) and his Wailua Golf Course staff for doing such a great job laying out the course for the tournament, and said wait until the boys come next week.
Dr. Michael Oride was balancing watching the girls tournament and taking care of the optometrist tournament which shared the same course.
OK, time to get ready for the boys’ tournament next week!
