The Kapa‘a High School Junior ROTC unit earned a second place overall in the state, and several category awards at the Waianae Adventure Challenge held on O‘ahu over the weekend.
A first place, a second place and a third place trophy for the various events gave the Warrior Junior ROTC unit the momentum to earn the overall second place award, being nudged out of the top award by the Campbell High School Sabers.
In addition to the overall award, the Kapa‘a unit was presented the Most Motivated Male and the Most Motivated Team awards.
William Barchers, one of the advisers for the Kapa‘a Junior ROTC program, said the Warrior program sent three teams to compete at the WAC held at the Piilau Recreation Center in Waianae.
According to Barchers, the WAC is an annual event which pits teams against each other in “the most arduous mountaineering, survival and water events.”
Some of the events the Warriors engaged in during the two-day competition included river crossing, 1-mile run, swim, outrigger canoe race and the Marine Corps PT Test.
The win comes on the heels of the Kapa‘a unit earning first place honors in the Armed Exhibition Quad competition at the Pacific Rim Drill Championships, also hosted on O‘ahu earlier in the month.
