Even coach Hank Ibia’s hair was blonde; Egan Kouchi (the whole family went) had a sign announcing the Kaua‘i High School baseball team as the ‘Blonde Bombers.’
Congratulations to coach Hank and the Blonde Bombers on earning the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association’s Division II state baseball championships Saturday.
Coach Darrell Borrero said everything worked out fine. Darrell was in town for a fast pitch softball tournament (kudos for the second-place finish) and still had time to watch Trent Allianic make second base before Schyler Arakaki drove him home.
That was timing, and coach Leonard Vegas was able to watch the game at UH’s Les Murakami Stadium while getting updates from the Kaua‘i Soccer Association playoffs at home.
Stanley Dotario made his way down the bleachers with his cell phone so Leah “Mama” Scovel could announce that she was watching the game on TV.
Ross Shimabukuro joined the Kaua‘i “media corps” of Art Oketani and Danny Miyasato, and Keith Burgess was able to push his flight up one so he could get home after the game.
Pauline Ibia was one of the first ones to spot The Camper in the parking garage, and mahalo to Joy Kouchi for taking care of the Mid Pac cookies. The only missing piece was not having Mel Rapozo there.
Now that the baseball title is in hand, Andrew Renaud gets to do this all over again this week when he joins the track and field team in its state bid.
