Children from the Halele‘a Cultural Exploration Program will share their projects, music and dance with friends and ‘ohana at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. today.
The Halele‘a Cultural Exploration Program is a culturally based curriculum put together by Kumu Hula Naomi Yokotake. The program provides activities for children including lei making, taro patch walks, and teaching of Hawaiian songs, chants and dances. The program also brings University of Hawai‘i students in to teach lessons on health topics including self-esteem, water safety and the food pyramid.
Also included in tonight’s program is a presentation by the Quentin Burdick students from the University of Hawai‘i Manoa. Potluck dinner to follow. Call Gayla for details at 826-1011.
