A Kekaha man seriously injured in a Saturday night motorcycle accident was not located until yesterday morning, states a county news release.
James Espiritu, 41, sustained serious injuries in the motorcycle accident in Hanapepe.
He apparently wandered away from the scene and was not found until Monday morning, the release states.
He was airlifted to The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu yesterday afternoon in stable, but guarded condition.
Espiritu’s damaged motorcycle was found in the vicinity of the Hanapepe Valley lookout Sunday morning a little after 6. The driver was nowhere to be found at the scene.
Police and fire personnel searched all day Sunday for Espiritu, but were unable to locate him.
The search was called off around 7:45 p.m.
Shortly after police resumed their search around 7 a.m. yesterday, Espiritu walked out of Hanapepe Valley to a command post of searchers.
Details of how the accident occurred were not available at press time. Espiritu reportedly moved to here from O‘ahu two weeks ago.
He was taken to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital, and was later transferred to The Queen’s Medical Center.
Police are continuing their investigation of the accident.
