While television sets will be tuned in to the opening of the Olympics, Aug. 8, the ‘ohana from Mokihana Aquatics will be allowing swimmers to get a feel for the Olympics.
Mokihana Aquatics will host its first-ever Pre-Olympic Community Lollipop Swim Meet to celebrate the Olympic games.
The Aug. 8 event will be held at the Waimea swimming pool and will move to the Kapa‘a swimming pool on Aug. 9. Anaya said swimmers are welcome to come to either one of the events, or better yet, attend both events.
Coach Orlando “O” Anaya, coach of the Mokihana Aquatics program, said the meet is being offered free to anyone on Kaua‘i through the generosity of community business organizations, the County of Kaua‘i’s Parks and Recreation Aquatics Division, USA Swimming, and Mokihana Aquatics.
In the meet, swimmers 8 and Under will participate while other Mokihana swimmers will be running the meet with help from experienced officials, Anaya said.
Swimmers from organized swim teams are not eligible to participate, an e-mail from Mokihana Aquatics states.
In addition to the fun in th water, Anaya said official Olympic swim schedules and USA swimming stickers and body tattoos will be distributed.
Additionally, Li Hing Mui Lollipops will be awarded all swimmers regardless of age or final placement.
This will be topped by a hot dog lunch with all the trimmings, chips and an energy drink for all swimmers at the end of the event.
Coaches for the Kapa‘a and Waimea satellite teams for Mokihana Aquatics will be announced at this time.
“It will be a day of fun, fun, and more fun,” Anaya said.
