The Detroit Lions completed their seventh day of two-a-day training camp sessions and Head Coach Rod Marinelli seems to be pleased with Jordon Dizon’s performance.
The Lions started practices last week, but the Waimea High School and University of Colorado graduate didn’t join in until Friday when he was signed to a four-year contract.
Yesterday, at a post-practice media session, Marinelli said he liked that Dizon seemed to always be around the ball.
“(He had) 400 tackles or whatever it was (in college), I can’t remember,” he said. “That’s something that usually doesn’t go away. When you’re evaluating a guy with that tackle production, that’s what I like … That doesn’t go away. Some of those things, you do in high school, college, and professional, it’s all there and it’ll stay there.”
Dizon was drafted by the Lions in the second round — the highest of any player with Hawai‘i ties to be drafted this year. The Lions have a preseason game against the reigning Super Bowl champions the New York Giants on Thursday, Aug. 7 and open their regular season on Sunday, September 7 against the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome.
