KOKE‘E — The Department of Land and Natural Resources will open this year’s season for plum harvesting at Koke‘e State Park on Friday. Plum harvesting season will run through Aug. 10. The plum crop this year is considered very poor.
KOKE‘E — The Department of Land and Natural Resources will open this year’s season for plum harvesting at Koke‘e State Park on Friday. Plum harvesting season will run through Aug. 10.
The plum crop this year is considered very poor. To avoid being disappointed, individuals and families are advised not to make a special trip to Koke‘e just to pick plums. Most trees are bare. Those with fruits have very few.
Permits to harvest will be available at the Koke‘e State Park Headquarters. Harvesting is permitted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in designated areas. Each person will be allowed to take up to five pounds of plums per day for personal consumption. Other conditions will be specified on the plum harvesting permit. A short pole with a net will make harvesting easier.
Plum pickers are reminded to help prevent forest fires and to pick up their litter. For more information, call the State Parks Office in Lihu‘e at 274-3445.
