• Brycen Phillips took first place honors in the 1,000-meter run at the Hawai‘i state junior lifeguards championships, Saturday at the Ala Moana Beach Park on O‘ahu.
Information received from the O‘ahu officials did not give Phillips credit for the event which appeared in a story in the Aug. 3 issue of The Garden Island.
• An article on the front page Aug. 5, “Jury trial begins in church theft case,” should state: According to section 708-830, subsection 2 of the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes, a person commits theft if that “person obtains, or exerts control over, the property of another by deception with intent to deprive the other of the property.”
