HONOLULU — The University of Hawai‘i Warrior football team starts fall camp on Monday and will do it without their fifth-year senior quarterback Tyler Graunke.
Graunke appeared in 10 games — two of them starts for the then-injured Colt Brennan — and finished the season with 10 touchdowns including one in the Sugar Bowl.
In February, Graunke was suspended for breaking unspecified team rules. While suspended, Graunke was not permitted to participate in offseason team workouts. He was reinstated a month later and took part in spring practice.
But his status with the team has remained somewhat uncertain as he will not dress out for next week’s practices.
“Tyler has things he has to work on,” McMackin stated in a release. “At this point, he will not practice with the team. Because of privacy laws, I can’t comment any further.”
The Warriors will begin camp with five quarterbacks, returnees Inoke Funaki, Shane Austin, and Jake Santos and newcomers Greg Alexander and Brent Rausch.
The Warriors will practice once-a-day from Aug. 4 to 9 and will start two-a-day practices on Monday, Aug. 11.
All grass fields are open to the public.
