A two-car accident at “Tree Tunnel Road” snarled rush-hour traffic yesterday around 4:30 p.m. on Kaumualii Highway near ‘Omao.
One of the cars was headed toward Lihu‘e on the highway when a westbound vehicle made a left turn onto Maluhia Road — the true name for Tree Tunnel Road.
“During the turn the vehicles collided and both drivers had to be transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital,” said county spokesperson Mary Daubert.
The condition of the drivers could not be determined at press time. “Traffic was diverted from Tree Tunnel Road for a half hour or so,” Daubert said.
Both drivers were residents and there were no passengers in either vehicle. They were both sedans, but the makes of either was not determined.
