Ada Koene has been using her camera and some of her work with orchids can be seen in the new Garden Island Orchid Society brochure. If you’re lucky, you might find one at the farm fair.
Ada and Rich Monroe, Richard and Gwen Teragawa and a whole lot of other orchid people were busy getting everything put together for the fair Wednesday afternoon (the best part was the potluck a la Hanapepe United Church of Christ show).
Unfortunately, it was time to leave and see Tom Tannery (he’s a great diver) do some of his moves at the YMCA pool.
But Melissa McFerrin has been practically camping at Vidinha Stadium (hope she has time to get some Coke, at least), and still had time to get to the council meeting where Akio Arakaki and Roy Oyama were commended for the farm bureau’s efforts with the fair.
Tim Bynum and Jay Furfaro got a head start on setting up their booths since the meeting got out early, and Kelly Gooding was checking on the waste recyclers before the crowd got too thick.
And if Melissa looks like she’s camped out, the Tony Pajella family is definitely camped out (he was one of the first responders to Tuesday night’s accident on his Security ATV), and still had time to join Raymond Duarte (there’s that emcee, again) at the ground-breaking for the Kukui‘ula Plantation Core project.
It’s a good thing Shiloh Pa was playing at Tom Leighton’s grand opening, or Raymond might have had to do some emcee duties. Congratulations to Tom and his ‘ohana on the opening of Motorcycles Period.
OK, time to check out the grinds at the fair … be safe, Kaua‘i.
