Kilauea Elementary School principal Fred Rose was named Employer of the Year for the North Shore of Kaua’i by the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay. Rose was a popular choice judging by the response of his teachers. He was described as a “teacher’s principal.”
In his acceptance remarks, he spoke of how he used to have one or two applicants for teaching vacancies, but with the efforts of “Growing our own teachers on Kaua’i” he had 11 applicants applying for those positions.
His trophy was engraved with his own words from his acceptance speech. When asked if he was thinking of moving along to another position, he replied, “I like what we’re doing here”.
The award was presented by 2007 president Sally Motta and incoming vocational service chair Branch Lotspeich.
