The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air riflery teams will not conduct their shootouts at the Hanapepe Armory this season. The venue is currently under renovation and instead, the competitions scheduled for there will be held at the Kekaha Small Firing Range.

“It will be interesting because it will be the first time Kaua‘i High School has ever shot there before,” Kaua‘i riflery coach Melissa Nobriga said of the change of site.
The certified range, located by the drag strip in Kekaha, could be described as an open range which has been used by police and National Guard for training.
“I’m glad the Kekaha range was available for the shootouts,” said Kapa‘a High School coach Sgt. Maj. Bill Barchers. “I hope it’s comfortable for the kids. Whatever they do, it’s going to be equal for all schools. No one school is going to have an advantage over another.
Waimea High School’s riflery coach could not be reached for comment.
This is the only venue change for this fall’s season. Those scheduled for Kaua‘i, Island School and Kapa‘a will remain the same.
