John Lynch of GolfTec Honolulu shot a three-day total 11-under par 205 (67-67-71) to capture the Aloha Section PGA Stroke Play Championship title and the $2,000 prize check. Ron Castillo Jr. of the Puakea Golf Course was one shot back at 206 (68-66-72) followed by Andrew Feldmann of O‘ahu Country Club and John Hearn of KMR School of Golf at 208. In the Senior Division, Lance Taketa of Hilo Municipal Golf Course shot a 214 (67-75-72) to win four shots ahead of David Chin of Navy Marine Golf Course at 218. Rodney Acia was the Super Senior Champion in at 225 (77-77-71).
Castillo captured the Section Professional Championship title after a grueling 10-hole sudden death playoff between him and John Lynch.
Both the stroke play and the section championships were held in conjunction this year at the Princeville’s Makai Course.
Castillo birdied the 10th hole to capture the title and will be joined by Lynch and Hearn to compete in the 42nd PGA Professional National Championship held June 28 to July 1, 2009 at Twin Warriors/Santa Ana Golf Clubs in Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
Hearn parred the first playoff hole to secure the last spot in the PNC over Andrew Feldmann. Professionals participating in the SPC had their first 36-hole scores qualify them for three spots representing the Aloha Section in the PNC and a total purse of $12,000.
The PGA Professional National Championship brings together a field of 312 contestants representing The PGA of America’s 41 nationwide Sections and will carry a $550,000 total purse this year and is broadcast by Golf Channel. The low 20 scorers in 2009 will earn berths into the 91st PGA Championship, Aug. 13 to 16, 2009, at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
