Lincoln Ching just couldn’t resist coming to check out the hogs at the fair. He’s retired so didn’t have to do the announcing and all the paperwork, but they still made him hold the signs. Laura Kawamura was busy trying to get photos of the winners, and Krystal Ijima was beside herself with no signs to wave and only going “woo-hoo” when Cassie Kawamura was announced. But that was after she forgot that it was 7 p.m. and past dinner time.
Laurie Yoshida was “multi-tasking” with a Kaua‘i High School T-shirt in the Lihu‘e Patriots booth and representing Gov. Linda Lingle at the dedication of the fair to Akio and Toshiko Arakaki.
Roy Oyama said the Arakakis are so humble he had to promise to be with Akio at the council meeting.
Shelly Paik and Anne Barnes were busy with the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative sustainability trailer, and Mindy Hibbett had a whole store plus more for this year’s fair.
OK, so you might still make it to breakfast at the Lihu‘e United Church of Christ (behind King Auto Center). Their breakfast runs from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
