Dr. Carolan will sing his new children’s book, “Old Makana Had a Taro Farm” with Kapa‘a Middle School choir tomorrow. The book is a Hawaiian twist on children’s folk song, “Old MacDonald had a Farm.” The music for the audio CD comes with the book. It was composed by Willie K and features Willie K and Eric Gilliom with members of the Kapa‘a Middle School Choir pictured below. Children will have the opportunity to sing along with the group as well as learn many Hawaiian animal names and sounds that are featured in the book. For more information call 335-5944.

Boys & Girls Clubs all over the country will celebrate and honor Boys & Girls Clubs around the world. The Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i and the Kaua‘i Branch invites the public to celebrate this event with them. Head Start meeting

Director of Kaua‘i Head Start, Frank Ranger, invites those interested in developing an infant/toddler (0-3) program for Kaua‘i to come to a meeting at the Child and Family Services ‘ohana room. The national trend appears to be heading toward the establishment of infant/toddler programs and funding may be forthcoming. Good planning could put Kaua‘i in a position to take advantage of possible funding. Invite others who might have an interest in this community project. For more information call 240-2817.
Informational meeting

Kaua‘i High School, in partnership with PAIRS-PTSA, will host an informational meeting for seniors and their parents and guardians. Join them at in the school cafeteria for the first of two meetings planned for this school year to help prepare seniors and their families for their last year in high school. The second meeting will take place in the spring of 2009.
Important information that will be shared includes graduation requirements, preparing for life after graduation, graduation supply orders, upcoming senior events and what’s being planned for graduation. The evening will end with a glimpse of “Project Graduation 2009,” an all-night after graduation celebration sponsored by PAIRS-PTSA and supported by generous individuals, organizations and companies throughout the community. Most presenters will be available at the conclusion of the meeting to answer questions on specific concerns of individual attendees.

From 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Kapa‘a High School library, parents and guardians of sophomores are invited to an informative presentation. This is an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers from each department. The evening’s agenda will include information regarding PTSA membership and activities, review of General Learner Outcomes, class level activities and career and college planning presented by counselors. Each grade level was scheduled to attend a parent meeting, the final one for freshman is Sept. 30. Enter library from the high school side.

Kekaha Elementary School receives funds
Waste Management of Hawai‘i recently donated $1,000 to Kekaha Elementary School to fund the purchase of school supplies and uniforms for underprivileged students. This follows the company’s contribution last year of $15,000 to the school’s Technology Enhanced Project Based Learning and “It’s All About the Kids” programs.
