Lihu‘e’s Kelli Oride and Honolulu’s Alina Ching shot a 5-over 75 yesterday to share the lead in the Girls 15 to 18 division of the third annual Kiahuna Junior Classic. Anna Jang of ‘Aiea is just a stroke behind at 76. Lihu‘e’s Rae-lyn Morikawa, playing in the same division, is currently in fifth.
It was an overcast day with light sprinkles throughout, making for cool conditions.
All eight divisions of the Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association tournament teed off yesterday and will conclude today. The tournament is the second to last opportunity for the juniors to earn points towards Player of the Year honors, but will be the last chance to earn an invitation to play in the Ulupalakau Tournament of Champions in December at the Wailea Golf Club.
Levi Miyashiro of Kapa‘a shot 10-over 80 and is currently second in the Boys 15 to 18 division behind Honolulu’s Reo Saito. Also in that division from Kaua‘i is Sean Mamaclay (89) and Jordan Oda (93).
In other divisions, Kapa‘a’s Kalau Tanaka-Pesamino is in second in the 10 and Under Girls division. For the 10 and Under Boys, Lihu‘e’s Keegan Loo is in third at 12 over, Trevor Kua shot 94, Douglas Sears of Koloa shot 113 and Lihu‘e’s Reece Valencia shot 114.
Kapa‘a’s Naea Oda (117) sits in fourth in the Girls 11 to 12 division.
