Rodney Wasano
Rodney Katsumi Wasano of Kapa‘a died Sept. 14, 2008, in Koloa, at the age of 73. Born Feb. 7, 1935, in Kapa‘a, he was the proprietor of Wasano Enterprises.
He was preceded in death by wife Ann Wasano.
He is survived by daughters Loukey (Nico) Duin of The Netherlands, Carol (Roland) Cristobal of Kapa‘a, Mildred Royals of Kapa‘a, Anki (Alden) Takata of Lihu‘e, Leah Royals of Florida; brothers Denis (Mary) Wasano of Kapa‘a, Gary (Karen) Wasano of Maui, Richard Wasano of Virginia; 6 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. during a celebration of his life on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Kauai Veterans Center in Lihu‘e; services begin at 10 a.m.
Military Honors and Flag presentation will begin at 11 a.m.
The family requests casual attire and graciously declines flowers.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Wasano family with arrangements.
Toshio Ishida
Toshio Ishida of Numila died on Oct. 16, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. Born on April 20, 1918, in Makaweli, he was a retired chemist with McBryde Sugar Company.
He is survived by a son Wendel (Karen) Ishida of Kalaheo; daughters Gwendolyn (Richard) Teragawa of Hanapepe and Lyndel (Wilfred) Chikahiro of Lawa‘i; eight grandchildren, Iris (Marvin) Hesapene, Tammy (Brian) Kuniyoshi, Rachelle (Mark) Mararagan, Ginny (Blaine) Agena, Brad (Holly) Chikahiro, Chad (Laree) Chikahiro, Clarice Yoshimoto and Crystal Ishida; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Sueko Kawane and Jane Kurokawa.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery pavilion.
Service officiated by Rev. Hashimoto will begin at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Cheryl Martellacci
Cheryl Martellacci died on Oct. 12, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 49. Born April 8, 1959, in California she was a T.S.A. with Lihu‘e Airport.
She is survived by her husband Anthony “Tony” Martellacci; son Gary Caito of California; and many friends. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. at Maha‘ulepu Beach, Saturday Oct. 25, 2008.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kauai Mortuary.
Kakiyo Koike
Kakiyo “Kay” Yamashita Koike of Kekaha died at home on Oct. 10, 2008, at the age of 95. Born on May 18, 1913, in Kekaha, she was a pre-school teacher in Waimea.
She is preceded in death by husband, Clarence S. Koike.
She is survived by son Benjamin (Betty) Koike of Honolulu; daughters Kay S. Koike of Kekaha and Betty Ann (Robert) Berry of Centennial, Colo.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sister Yoshino “Jean’ Jitchaku of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary Ltd.
George Wong
George Wong of Waianae, ‘Oahu, died Oct. 15, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center West Hospice, Ewa Beach. Born Dec. 28, 1926, in He‘eia, Hawai‘i, he was a former warehouseman/forklift operator.
He is survived by sons Larry Wong, Randall Wong, Ronald Lono; daughters Donna Wong, Cindy (Benton) Barrows of Maui, Sandy Rose Lono; brother William Wong of Kaua‘i and numerous nieces and nephews.
