Pay no attention to the high school game that was put on the ballot earlier this week. That’s my little nod to Hawai‘i Children’s Theatre and Kaua‘i Community Players who open “The Wiz” this week.
But really, the Radford/Kaua‘i game that was printed on this week’s ballot was placed a week too early. The No. 3 Red Raiders and the unranked Rams of the O‘ahu Interscholastic Federation actually play next Friday, here at Vidinha Stadium.
Regardless of what’s on the ballot, the only games that will count this weekend will be the ones played. So instead of 13, the person who predicts the most of 12 will win the weekly $50 in cash.
Winning his second weekly prize of the Frenzy was Felipe Bigno of ‘Ele‘ele. Bigno won early in October and won yet again by going 12-for-13 this week, with his sole loss, the Indianapolis/Pittsburgh game.
(Pittsburgh should have won that one.)
Bigno won this week with the tie-break score by two points.
Look closely at all our picks this today. This far into the season, I guess we’re all getting a feel for the teams and that’s probably why a lot of our picks are similar. You’ll see that Richard Stein (9-4, 62-55) was the only one to pick Jacksonville over Tennessee. I know that it’s hard for a team to go undefeated — and so far the Titans are — and even if they’re due for an upset, I just don’t think it’s this week. Although, I didn’t think the Browns could beat the Giants either, and they did in primetime.
Ron Wiley (9-4, 67-50) is gaining on me (7-6, 69-48) at two games back, but we’ll see what happens.
Hopefully Maryland can pull an upset over UNC for me.
Joining us on the panel is newcomer Lana Lopes of Lihu‘e. A dedicated Frenzy fan, she finally makes it on. Thanks for playing, Lana.
