Nominations for the 2008 Elliott Cades Awards for Literature, the state’s most prestigious prize for literary achievement, are now being accepted, the Hawai‘i Literary Arts Council announced.
The awards, which include a cash prize, are given annually in Hawai‘i to two writers who have exhibited the highest quality of literary achievement in any field.
One prize is given to an established artist with a substantial body of work; the other is given to an emerging artist whose early publications show great promise.
Preference is given to Hawai‘i-based writers or those whose writings deal substantially with Hawai‘i issues. Previous winners are not eligible.
Nominations should include a letter summarizing the writer’s achievements and samples of the writer’s work.
There is no formal nomination form.

The deadline is Dec. 15.
