The women’s Roxy and men’s O’Neill pros, the second event of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, were called off yet again yesterday. It’s the third straight lay day for the annual competition held on the North Shores of O‘ahu since its holding period began on Monday.
After organizers assessed that the waves were too small and the conditions were inconsistent, they called off the competition for the day. There is a possible start for tomorrow as everyone has off today for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Event director Randy Rarick said the North Shore should be expecting “sizable surf over the weekend” and anticipates the competition’s commencement soon.
Organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning with a possible start at 8 a.m. The waiting periods will hold until Dec. 6.
When competition starts, Hawai‘i’s Carissa Moore and Coco Ho will surf off in the trials, vying for a wildcard spot at the Roxy.
For the men, Bruce Irons, Evan Valiere, Jesse Merle-Jones and Alex Smith are registered for Round 1.
