KOLOA — Ladies from Denver, Colo., were enjoying an ice cream cone yesterday while friends and family back home suffered in 15-degree weather.
Dressed in shirt sleeves, Maureen Dobbl and Judy Hughes did not hesitate when offered a free Kaua‘i Pie cone apiece at the Lappert’s in Koloa.
“It’s 15 degrees in Denver and what a better way to enjoy that than to have an ice cream cone,” Dobbl said.
Lappert’s Ice Cream was celebrating its 25th anniversary and free Kaua‘i Pie cones were the order of the day at all of the Lappert’s locations yesterday.
Johnny Francisco of Hanapepe said the promotion was a good way to “test out the other stores” as he enjoyed his cone from the Koloa outlet.
For those who did not make it for the free giveaway, there is still time to register for a cache of Lappert’s goodies during its annual 12 Days of Christmas promotion.
According to a flier posted at the Koloa store, on the first day, someone wins one Lappert’s Hawai‘i T-shirt.
That single prizewinner is followed by giveaways of two pints of ice cream, three hot fudge sundaes, four double-scoop waffle cones, five 10-ounce bags of supreme coffee, six espresso drinks, seven fruity smoothies, eight butter crumbcakes, nine single-scoop ice cream cones, 10 cups of supreme coffee and 11 chocolate macadamia nut brownies for each of the days of Christmas.
On the 12th day of Christmas, which falls on Christmas Day, the winner of that day’s drawing wins all of the listed items. People can still sign up for this promotion by visiting any of the Lappert’s locations.
Lappert’s was started as a little shop for the “golden years” of retirement, states the Lappert’s Web site. Lappert’s first batch of ice cream was created on Kaua‘i on Dec. 21, 1983.
