After the Lights on Rice parade, what’s next?
Jonelle Kaohelaulii has the kickoff of the Lokahi Project on tap with a special guest from one of the O‘ahu television stations hosting the event today.
Keahi Tucker was here on Thursday along with Beth-Ann Nishijima (Two Skinny Chefs?) as guest judges for the Hawai‘i Top Chef Pupu Challenge Finals. Mark Oyama was the other guest judge and said more off-island culinary celebrities are on tap for the Kaua‘i Community College annual gala coming up April 17.
This is just a heads-up since the event has been sold out since it started so keep your eyes peeled for when the tickets go on sale.
Max Kato-Klutke was doing the photo duty at the event since mom Sandi was one of the event honchos along with Jolene Ogle. These are the sparkplugs of the Hawai‘i Hotel & Lodging Association, Kaua‘i Chapter, that hosts the annual Kaua‘i Visitor Industry Charity Walk.
Sandi said the idea of the Pupu Challenge goes to Leland Kahawai (First Hawaiian Bank has their Christmas decorations up) and the finals were between chefs Rafael Camarillo and Guy Higa.
But before all that, Marty Amaro of Kaua‘i Coffee Company had a pre-taste appetizer drink that featured coffee.
Thursday was a busy day for Sue Kanoho and Randall Francisco since Sue and Randall were both at the airport to send off Carol Foy and CarolAnn Garratt on the two ladies’ around-the-world record attempt (how thrilling they picked Kaua‘i as one of their Pacific stops). From there, Sue was off to the Zonta Club meeting and Randall ended his day at the Pupu Challenge. The big question is what happened to Carol Texeira’s voice?
