DENVER – University of Hawai‘i sophomore point guard Keisha Kanekoa was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week for Dec. 1-7, following her performances against Utah Valley, Northern Arizona and UC Irvine this past week as announced by the conference office.
The sophomore from Honoka‘a, Hawai‘i, led the Rainbow Wahine to their first wins of the season and a 2-1 record after averaging 18.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.7 steals last week.
She was 19-of-20 (95 percent) from the free throw line and 17-of-30 (57 percent) from the field over the three games.
This is the first career honor for Kanekoa.
Kanekoa started the week with 16 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals in a win over Utah Valley. In a 61-58 loss to Northern Arizona, she finished with 19 points, seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.
She closed out the week with her first career double-double — 19 points and 11 rebounds — in a win against UC Irvine.
She also added six assists.
Kanekoa was named to the Arizona State Classic all-tournament team after averaging 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists over the two games.
The Rainbow Wahine return to action Dec. 19 when they face Washington State at 2 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine will face the Cougars again on Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. before taking a week off for the holiday break.
