In accordance with KIUC’s bylaws, a Nominating Committee has been appointed to select individuals to run for three director positions on the nine-member Board of Directors for KIUC, a press release states.
The individuals serving on the committee — Chairperson of the Committee KIUC Director Carol Bain, Edee Bandmann, Michael Murakoshi, Cesar Portugal and Mike Tresler — will recommend individuals as nominees for the three available seats. These individuals will be on the ballot for the March 28 election.
All interested KIUC members who wish to be considered by the Nominating Committee should submit a one-page resume and letter of interest by Jan. 5, addressed to KIUC Nominating Committee, 4463 Pahee Street, Suite 1, Lihu‘e, HI 96766-2000.
All potential candidates are required to attend a Directors Duties Orientation to confirm a willingness to serve.
The committee will review the qualifications of all interested candidates and release the selection of nominees, along with the names of all interested parties no later than Jan. 18.
The committee is looking for KIUC members who have past experience serving on the boards of community, nonprofit or government organizations and those willing to accept the responsibilities and obligations of a director, which include taking the time necessary to prepare for, attend and take an active part in board meetings. Qualified KIUC members, including current and former KIUC directors, are eligible for consideration. See Board Policy No. 18 at www.kiuc.coop.
A director is one of nine elected representatives of the members of KIUC who collectively constitute the Board of Directors. The board governs the business and affairs of KIUC and is generally concerned with the broad courses of action to be followed by the utility and not involved in the day-to-day utility operations.
Qualified KIUC members may also be nominated by collecting 35 signatures of other members (electric account holders) in good standing and by submitting a completed Member Petition to the Nominating Committee no later than Feb. 9.
All candidates with valid petitions, and all candidates selected by the committee will be placed on the ballot for the March 28 election.
