LIHU‘E — The 17-year-old male juvenile who was injured in a motorcycle accident in Hanama’ulu Thursday remains in critical condition at the Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu, according to Kaua‘i County spokeswoman Mary Daubert.
Daubert said in a phone interview Saturday that the juvenile, whose identity will not be released by officials, was being treated in an intensive care unit.
Information regarding the extent of his injuries has not been made available.
The Hanama‘ulu resident was riding a Yamaha dirt bike on Hanama‘ulu Road in the vicinity of the Ohia Road junction at around 2:55 p.m. Thursday when he lost control and struck a hollow tile wall, according to a county press release.
He was not wearing a helmet, and, according to police, speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.
He was originally transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Queen’s for further treatment.
