On an island where evening entertainment is known to be somewhat sparse, a new local venue providing nightly entertainment has recently surfaced on Kaua‘i that offers food, drink, dancing and cocktails until the wee hours of the morning.
The Pearl Lounge, located in the newly remodeled building next to Pizzetta’s in Kapa‘a, is open seven nights a week from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and midnight Sundays through Wednesdays.
Tesai, one of the managers of Pearl Lounge, said this week that the spot offers a variety of nightly entertainment which caters to different tastes, including salsa on Tuesdays, jazz on Sundays and $5 martini Thursdays.
According to Tesai, he believes Pearl Lounge is set to become “the new socialite’s bar” on Kaua‘i and hopes people will come by to experience a “touch of class” on the island. Pearl Lounge has in fact already been undergoing a steady stream of patrons and, according to Tesai, this month is forecast to be even bigger.
Tesai, a DJ who recently made the “natural progression” to a more permanent venue at Pearl Lounge, says the bar appeals to those looking for a place to dance, not only salsa, but hip-hop and R&B Thursday through Saturday nights, with himself spinning on Fridays.
“Before I was going between different places to DJ, but businesses keep closing down and it was hard to find lasting venues. When Pearl Lounge came about, it was one of those moments, where, as the saying goes, ‘if you had one chance to make it, what would you do,’ and this was our one chance,” he said in regards to how he came to be the ‘jack-of-all-trades’ for the lounge. “We really want to make this work and we’ve really got a good thing going.”
Along with $3 Heinekens and Passion Mojitos, individuals also have the option of ordering from two different menus every night until 11 p.m.
Of the food that is offered, including the entire menu of Pizzetta’s, is edamame, chicken and beef teriyaki skewers with homemade papaya teriyaki sauce and Thai chicken cups with lemongrass vinaigrette.
“We have light pupus and food you can eat while you’re drinking or watching a game,” said Tesai, adding that Monday Night Football, as well as NBA games can be viewed at the lounge.
Live musical performers are there most nights of the week between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. and local musicians are encouraged to participate in open mic.
Daily happy hours run from 4 to 7 p.m. and include drink and food specials.
“It’s a brand new spot and you’ve got to get out there,” Tesai said.
