Rep. Hermina Morita, D-14th District, announced this week that she has hired two staff members who were born and raised on Kaua‘i, and that through their efforts, will focus on new and expanded ways to share legislative news with the community.
Judy Sokei and Joel Guy have joined Morita’s team as assistant committee clerks, a news release from her office states.
For the next four months, the pair will be working at the Hawai‘i State Capitol and are committed to help Morita on legislation that will positively impact Hawai‘i, with a special focus on Kaua‘i issues.
Sokei is a lecturer in philosophy at Honolulu Community College. Guy is a filmmaker from the North Shore who is active in environmental issues and supporting sustainable communities.
In addition to working with traditional media sources, Sokei and Guy will be experimenting with online social networking sites such as YouTube and Facebook. They invite the public to visit their YouTube sight by searching “JGinRepMoritasOffice.”
For the 2009 legislative session, Morita will continue to chair the Energy and Environmental Protection Committee.
In addition, she will serve on the following four committees: Consumer Protection and Commerce; Housing; Judiciary; and Water, Land, and Ocean Resources.
On Jan. 13, Morita is scheduled to deliver an informational briefing on Hawai‘i’s Renewable Energy Future and Hydrogen/Fuel Cells: A Local, National and International Perspective. It is the first of a series of joint House-Senate informational briefings on energy to educate legislators and the public on this important topic, the news release states.
