‘Ukulele players planning on furthering their education beyond high school now have a scholarship program available to them.
That announcement was made by ‘Ukulele Festival Hawai‘i, no stranger to Kaua‘i, yesterday in Honolulu.
According to a release from ‘Ukulele Festivals, applications are being accepted now through March 31. The scholarship is open to all high school seniors in Hawai‘i in good standing and have plans to further their education at a four-year college or university, enjoy playing the ‘ukulele and demonstrate financial need.
Applications must be accompanied by a personal statement essay and two letters of reference with at least one from a teacher.
Applications and more information can be obtained by e-mailing info@ukulelefestivalhawaii.org. The completed applications should be mailed to ‘Ukulele Festival Hawai‘i, 3555 Harding Ave., Suite 1, Honolulu, HI 96816.
The first scholarship to be presented by ‘Ukulele Festival Hawai‘i will be for $1,000 to a deserving graduating high school senior.
“When Kathy and I established our charitable organization, one of our main goals was to offer scholarships to deserving students who plan to further their education after high school,” said Roy Sakuma, president of ‘Ukulele Festival Hawai‘i. “We are pleased to be able to offer our first scholarship this year.”
Sakuma and the ‘Ukulele Festival Hawai‘i program has visited Kaua‘i annually at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center. This year’s show that feature ‘ukulele being given away during the program will be on Apr. 11.
‘Ukulele Festival Hawai‘i is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging interest in Hawai‘i’s arts and culture.
