That game was one of three final games played in the county’s 13 and Under basketball program with Westside edging out Lihu‘e 35-26 in a boys game and the Kamikaze-Red winning over the Z-Girlz 19-10 in the final game.
With the win, the Kamikaze-White joins its boys counterpart, Hanakila of Kilauea, in posting undefeated seasons in the program.
Alyssa Vegas and Nicole Palacio marked nine and seven points, respectively, to lead the Kaulupono effort.
Vhincel Bolleser finished with a game-high 11 points to lead the Westside in its edge over a tenacious and ever-improving Lihu‘e team. Bolleser was joined by A.J. Martinez and Tryston Dela Cruz with eight and six points, respectively.
Keanu Mathias and Chanse Ramirez paced the Lihu‘e effort with eight and six points, respectively.
The two “Lele” of the Kamikaze-Red figured in the team’s win over the Z-Girlz as Lele Hanie sparked the offense with nine points followed by Lele Silva adding six points.
Keliann Nuesca finished with a game-high 10 points to lead the Z-Girls.
Following the matches, Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association, spearheading the scorekeeping chores for the county’s league, said there were several parents who came to thank the league for giving their kids the opportunity to have this experience.
With the close of the county’s 13 and Under program, Matsumoto said Clyde Vito and Aaron Uyeda of the county’s Parks and Recreation Department are currently working on the schedule for the 11 and Under league.
Bill Troutman of Kilauea said he’s anxious to begin play. He is coordianting the Mitey-Mite, Termite and 11 and Under league for Kilauea and the North Shore with about 27 teams ready to play.
The Kilauea program is sponsored by the Kaua‘i Police Activities League.
Bobby Kamakele, coach for the Kaulupono program, plans to coordinate the Mitey Mile and Termite leagues for teams from Lihu‘e to West Kaua‘i.
