Wilson bogeyed three of the courses par-5s, starting with the long, tree-lined No. 11. Then came trouble with hole No. 14, leaving Wilson to make the turn at 2-over 37.
Wilson went further down the leaderboard with bogeys on the par-5 No. 1 and par-3 No. 4. Wilson was able to save his round with birdies on the No. 5 and No. 7, and finishing with another on the ninth. Wilson’s drive on No. 9 landed 233 yards into the fairway. Wilson’s second shot went for 172 yards, just off the green and into the rough, landing him within 27 feet of the cup.
Wilson sits with tied at 75th with 23 others and is seven shots off the leader Jim Furyk (6-under 65).
Honolulu’s Parker McLachlin finished the day at 3-over 74. McLachlin made the turn at even was at that score through to No. 5. McLachlin’s fall down the board came when he double-bogeyed the par-4 ninth. He closed No. 9 with a bogey.
Wilson tees off today with Kevin Sutherland and Dudley Hart. McLachlin will tee up with Brett Quigley and Matt Bettencourt.
