KAPA‘A — Ray Ray had one goal, but the rain won in the end as the Midget division game was called with 12:05 in the half by a cloudburst Sunday in Kapa‘a.
Rain played havoc with the Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association scheduling when three games were cancelled Friday night due to the rain, and the Bantam division match was also cancelled Sunday.
Ray of Midget “A” struck at the 16:22 mark just as a sprinkle started, forcing a rain delay.
When the game was called, Midget “A” was ahead on the assisted goal by Ray, 1-0, and its goalkeeper, Jaime Pablo, had six saves on six shots by Midget “B.”
Greg Balmores, the Midget “B” goalkeeper was at six saves on seven Midget “A” shots.
Earlier in the day, the only game to be completed in the weekend series saw the Devils take a hard-fought 10-7 win over The Green Machine in the Squirt division.
T.J. Mowery and an unidentified Devil each netted a hat trick, Joshua Lakatos finished with two goals and Jessica Mowery netted a score and had two assists to lead the Devils in its win.
Kainalu Gandia had a hat trick plus an assist and Shannon Sitzler finished with two goals to lead The Green Machine effort. Victor Sanchez had a goal and Brody Soong finished with two assists to help the machine.
Derek Soong got his first taste as goalkeeper and finished the day with 14 saves on 24 shots while the Devils keeper went 17 saves on 24 shots.
Games for the Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association are scheduled to continue Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons at the Kapa‘a rink, weather permitting.
There is no admission fee to view the games and the public is invited.
