LIHU‘E — A house fire Saturday afternoon resulted in $130,000 in damages to a two-story home located on Palaumahu Street in Lihu‘e, a county press release said.
No one was injured in the fire, which started in a 10-foot plastic storage shed outside the home at around 2:14 p.m. and made its way up the stairway, onto the balcony, and into the kitchen of a one-bedroom apartment.
According to a preliminary report, the male occupant of the apartment saw the smoke coming from the shed and ran down another stairway on the side of the house. His attempt to put out the fire with a garden hose was unsuccessful.
The shed was totally destroyed by the fire.
Engine 3, Rescue 3, Prevention 1 and Battalion Chief 3 responded to the fire.
The fire was deemed under control at 2:30 p.m. and fully extinguished at 4:19 p.m.
