With just one more game on its schedule, Hanakila appears to have wrapped up the title for the county’s 13 and Under boys basketball program.

Vaughn Thompson finished with seven points, Trey Aguano and Javan Torres each added six points to lead Papalina to a 33-23 edge over the G Unit in the second of three boys games.
Edsel Lactaotao, Fresno Masaniai and Makana Aki each finished with four points to pace the G Unit effort.
Chanse Ramirez ended with 9 points and Randon Valenciano added five points as Lihu‘e, ever-improving with each appearance on the court, topped Team Central, 29-27 in the final boys game in Kilauea.
Kanalu Simao finished with a game-high 13 points and Lansen Eto, the hustling Central guard, added eight points.
In the single girls match, Kristle Henry came up with a dozen points to lead the Kamikaze-White to a 28-6 win over the Z-Girls who got three points from Shayna Sa. The win keeps the Kamikaze-White undefeated with two more games remaining in its schedule.
The county enters its final week for the 13 and Under program with games on tap at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Karen Matsumoto of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association said KYBA opened pre-registration for a Coach Agena clinic coming up March 20 at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
“We had a good number of sign-ups, primarily from the middle school boys and girls,” Matsumoto said. “We’re expecting between 60-70 boys and girls to be participating in the three-day clinic. Coach Agena is excited about coming over and is doing it free for the kids.”
Matsumoto said players can still sign up at this week’s games on Thursday and Saturday.
