ANAHOLA — Five firefighters from the Kapa‘a fire station and four rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e fire station began mobilizing at 7 a.m. Sunday, resuming their search for the surfer who went missing Friday afternoon in Anahola at a spot called “Crack 14.”
Fire officials suspended the search Sunday afternoon and switched to passive mode, a county news release states.
The missing man was identified as 34-year-old Aaron Lamson of Moloa’a, who lost his surfboard at around 1:41 Friday afternoon at a spot called “Crack 14” and has not been seen since then.
“Anyone with new information about the missing surfer is urged to call us,” said Kaua‘i Fire Chief Robert Westerman.
“We are prepared to immediately switch from passive to active mode and resume the search.”
Over the course of three days, firefighters and rescue specialists conducted shoreline searches that extended from “Crack 14” all the way to Kapa’a swimming pool, lifeguards searched in the water on jet skis and Air-1 did aerial searches in the area.
Additionally, Coast Guard personnel assisted with aerial searches via helicopter as well as a C-130 airplane, covering some 200 square miles of water.
