According to a release from the Garden Island Motorsports, the hare & hound race is a trail competition where a dirt bike rider will race through mountain trails lined or marked by colored flags. It usually runs about 30 or 40 miles of rugged terrain, cliffs, river and stream crossings, hill climbs, open fields and trails, some of which are not fit for hikers.
Some of the hare & hound events are so difficult that only 10 percent of all riders entered actually finish the race from start to finish in the allotted time.
The Poker Run is a trail ride for anyone from beginners to the most experienced riders. This is usually about 10 to 15 miles of easy trails that are keiki-friendly, and families usually plan to ride together.
Keiki riders learn about the safety aspects of riding dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles while having a good time.
Trophies for the various classes in the Hare & Hound event and Poker Run will be presented. Additionally, riders have an opportunity to earn prizes through a random drawing.
