KAPA‘A — Jazz, food, wine, good art and a strong support for the Kaua‘i United Way made for a good combination, Sunday afternoon.
“It’s a win-win situation,” said Scott Giarman, director of the Kaua‘i United Way. “The Wyland gallery gets some exposure, people can meet the people from Personal Financial Consultants, and enjoy some food while helping other people on Kaua‘i.”
Pat Pannell, operations director for Personal Financial Consultants, believes in the work of the Kaua‘i United Way and is willing to contribute half of the fees from its new clients to help other people through the United Way.
Pannell said during these tight economic times, people need the services of a financial consultant and in return for getting help with their finances, they are also helping other people through the Kaua‘i United Way.
Personal Financial Consultants is pledging to donate 50 percent of all new Kaua‘i client fees up to $2,500 per client, Pannell said.
A painting by Duffy Sheridan will be given away on April 2 through a donation drawing with all of the funds from the donation benefiting the Kaua‘i United Way.
Sheridan was on hand with Joanne Higgins, the owner of Wyland Galleries, and people took advantage of the afternoon gathering to chat with the Living Master.
The Foundation for Art Renewal Center defines a Living Master as someone with the rare talent, experience and expertise to create great humanistic works of art that are seemingly executed with effortless perfection, states a flier on the event.
“On a Clear Day,” the painting by Sheridan that will be given away, depicts a young lady hanging on to a hat on a wind-swept coastline against a blue ocean, blue sky speckled with cotton candy white clouds.
During the Sunday reception, the Wyland Gallery will donate a percentage of all gallery sales, Sunday, to the Kaua‘i United Way.
Additionally, the Kaua‘i Concert Association is selling concert tickets, and for every ticket sold, Personal Financial Consultants will buy a donation ticket for the painting drawing.
Loren Kayfetz, president of Personal Financial Consultants, teamed with Susan Hironaka to offer classical flute duet numbers.
Additionally, Darryl Miyasato, director of bands at Kaua‘i High School, teamed with Rhett Pierce and Tony LeHoven to offer a variety of jazz pieces to clients that enjoyed food prepared by The Eastside Restaurant.
Drawing for the painting takes place April 2, and people wanting to donate for the drawing can call 645-1571.
