Congratulations to Waimea coach Michael Rita and his staff for taking the KIF baseball Round 1 title. The Menehune have been playing a tough brand of ball, and who would imagine that color commentator Michael Acoba could hit the ball as well as he’s been doing? Anahola Joel Pahukula (he does the live KQNG AM570 broadcasts) says Michael is one of the league’s leading hitters right now.
His counterpart, MarieBeth Watanabe is also one of the strongholds on the Waimea softball infield. Jessica Iwata was feeling bad when one of her hard-hit balls glanced off MB’s shin during Wednesday night’s game.
Michael Koerte, his daughter Shelly is the Menehune softball pitcher, is feeling really good about all the accomplishments of all the high school athletes, and Kapa‘a coach Gordan Muramaru had his baseball players out supporting the Warrior wahine at Saturday’s softball games.
OK, time to hele on. It’s time to get ready for Outstanding Older American month with Mayor Bernard Carvalho.
