Zack Lewis and Cascade Mayer came up with goals in the final minute of play, but the effort fell short as Da Eh Team held off Team Todd 9-8 in the Bantam division playoffs Sunday at the Kapa‘a rink.
Lewis marked his second goal at the :46 mark and Mayer got an assist from sister Sierra Mayer for a goal, her fourth of the game, at the :31 mark in the period at the Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association playoffs.
Following Cascade Mayer’s lead, Zack Lewis finished with two goals, and Jacob Lewis and Ben Steuri each netted a goal.
Stephanie Steuri, the Team Todd goalkeeper, finished with 35 saves on 44 shots.
Da Eh Team gets life in the playoffs after suffering a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Devils Friday night.
Trevor McCracken, the strong forward for the greenshirts, led the Friday night effort with a hat trick with Michael Alonzo netting the final Friday goal.
Daniel Alonzo, tending for Da Eh Team, finished Friday with 48 saves on 54 shots. He improved to 18 saves on 20 shots in one half of tending chores, Sunday. Grant Basquez took over the second half goalie chores with 21 saves on 27 shots.
In the Sunday win, Matthias Davis and Trevor McCracken shared two goals each to give the greenshirts an early 4-2 lead at the half.
Davis went on to finish with six goals in the win. Eli Leech-Kritchman had a goal, Christian Perdue and Marissa Aceret each posted an assist in the win.
The Devils, who take to the court Tuesday night, got a hat trick from Austin Taylor to lead the victory. Kawai Peahu had a goal and three assists with Marcus Punua netting a score in the Friday night win.
Iki Punua, the Devils’ goalkeeper, finished the night with 24 saves on 33 shots.
Chanel Tremblay was on fire, Friday night, netting five goals to lead the Green Machine to a 10-7 win over the Devils in the Squirt division playoffs.
Shannon Sitzler and Kalena Harder added two goals each and Kainalu Gandia finished with a score in the win.
Tomas Sanchez, the Green Machine goalkeeper, finished with 19 saves on 26 shots while TJ Mowery, the Devils’ keeper, finished with 26 saves on 36 shots.
Luke Boyd paced the Devils with a hat trick followed by Joshua Lakatos netting two goals and Laakea Cabreira getting a goal.
Brandon Muraoka got an assist from Ray Berg at the 1:56 mark to net a goal that give the Midget A its second win in two days at it edged Midget B, 7-6, Sunday. Berg got an assist from Muraoka Friday night to net a goal at the 8:38 mark to take a 7-6 edge over Midget B in that division playoffs.
Muraoka finished Sunday with a hat trick to lead Midget A to its division title followed by Mika Givens getting a pair of scores. Matthias Davis and Mark Wojcinski each netted a goal in the win.
On Friday night, Berg paced the win on four goals and an assist followed by Muraoka ending with two goals and an assist.
Jaime Pablo, the Midget A goalkeeper finished with 41 saves on 47 shots Sunday. He was 38 saves on 44 shots, Friday night.
Greg Balmores, the Midget B tender, finished with 22 saves on 28 shots Sunday. Friday night, Balmores finished with 23 saves on 30 shots.
Keala Davis, netting a goal and two assists Friday, came up with two goals and two assists, Sunday in a stepped up Midget B effort. Tyson Wakayama, netting a goal Friday, finished Sunday with a goal and two assists.
Ikaika Fuerte, getting two goals in the Friday effort, finished Sunday with a goal and an assist. Justin Fujikawa got a goal, Sunday.
Tuesday night the Bantam Devils will take on Da Eh Team in another playoff round. If the Devils drop that match to Da Eh Team, both teams square off Thursday night. Face off starts at 6 p.m. at the Kapa‘a rink.
