LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i’s Older American Male and Female will be selected from a field of 10 nominees that were presented this week by Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. and Kealoha Takahashi, executive for the county’s Agency on Elderly Affairs.
The seniors will be honored at the 43rd annual Older American Awards Recognition Ceremony at 9 a.m., May 5, at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa in Po‘ipu. The names of Kaua‘i’s Outstanding Male and Female Older Americans will be announced during the ceremony.
The event is held in celebration of May being Older Americans month and the winners will be feted at a state luncheon with Gov. Linda Lingle.
Federico Acoba Jr., Janice Bond, Dr. Arnulfo Diaz, Sheila Drews, Sandy Gage, Stephanie Hughes, Sally Jo Manea, Emily Minei, Mildred Olores and Roy Tamashiro are the nominees presented by Carvalho and Takahashi.
